Helen Bullock

We heard Helen talk about her work and she gave us lots of information about portfolios which was so useful. To start the drawings off we first had to draw the picture from the screen shown. we had around five minuets to do this Helen gave us the tip of always starting at the head so we can fill the whole page. I had enough time to add in all the detail and edit out any parts i wasn't happy with as well as adding some colour.
We then had to draw another picture very similar to the first one however we had much less time this time there was no time to edit out parts and barely enough time to think about what I was drawing. This was so we couldn't fuss over our drawings so much. Later on Helen said that its good to have mistakes in our work and we should rub them out we should work around them as they can often lead to a more creative and interesting piece all together.
We then had to draw three images that were shown one at a time and we only had a couple of minuets to draw them. The images were all very exaggerated  with their poses and again we weren't meant to look at the paper to much. Helen asked us to stand up for this one and use our whole bodies to draw not just our wrists. Once the time was up and i finally looked down the drawing i had done looked nothing like the images I was shown however it was such an interesting and abstract drawing.
The next drawing we had to do we were told to use pen so we couldn't edit it and so we would be confident in our lines. we only had to draw the outline of the image. We were also not supposed to lift the pen off the paper and also to not look at the paper to much only the image. Once the first one was drawn Helen asked us to draw another one exactly the same next to it and to make sure they were overlapping one another using the same technique as before.
Now we had two outlines drawn Helen asked us to go and find some patterns around our room on clothing and other things and once we had them she said we could colour in and design the inside of the drawing using the patterns we had collected as inspiration. This was really nice and i ended up with some interesting designs It was so nice not overthinking the drawings to much and just going with it i found i created something much more interesting than i would have done if i had tried to spend hours on it getting it as close the original image as possible.
